USA: Pittsburgh Company Develops Solar-Assisted Electric-Car Charging Station


Eaton Corp., a Pittsburgh-based electrical engineering firm, is working on a solar-assisted charging station for electric vehicles.

The company announced July 26 that it would collaborate with the Tennessee Valley Authority – one of the biggest power producers in the Southeast – and the nonprofit Electric Power Research Institute to develop the charging station. The first station will be erected at EPRI’s lab in Knoxville, Tennessee, and more will be installed around the state in short order.

“Solar-assisted electric vehicle charging stations are a crucial step toward the development of a regional system of clean fuel for electric vehicles,” Tom Schafer, the general manager of Eaton’s Commercial Distribution Products Division, said in a statement.
