USA: Local Business Ecotality Benefiting from Recovery Act

PHOENIX — Did you catch it? Earlier this week, President Obama delivered his first State of the Union address, and one Phoenix business was mentioned.

Obama put Ecotality in the national spotlight when he explained how it was reaping the benefits of the stimulus bill.

“Economists on the left and right say this bill has helped save jobs and avert disaster. But you don’t have to take our work for it. Talk to the small business in Phoenix that will triple its workforce because of the Recovery Act,” said the president during his speech.

Ecotality is specializing in renewable energy development. Jonathan Read started Ecotality after taking time off to figure out what our country needed.

“It was pretty clear to me that our reliance on foreign oil was a significant problem,” said Read.

Take a look at Nissan’s new zero-emission electric car, the Leaf . Battery-powered cars like it need charging stations — that’s where Ecotality comes in.

Last fall, Ecotality received $100 million in stimulus money to build thousands of charging stations across the country. Read says Arizonans are embracing their need for clean energy.
