Sydney is one of six cities around the world to take part in a program to speed up the introduction of electric vehicles.
Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore, who is in Copenhagen, says under the project, charging stations will be set up for electric vehicles with the first ones expected to be ready late next year.
About 700-thousand fuel-powered cars travel each day in the Sydney local government area.
