Why is Air Pollution a Danger to Our Environment?

Although we all are familiar with air pollution, and know it is a very real
problem that affects our environment and all of us, most of us tend to ignore it
as if it does not exist. This is particularly easy for people who live in rural
areas and do not see on a daily basis its extent: they do not see smog,
factories, or millions of cars on the road polluting our air. More...

A Chinese-owned GM, it could happen

GM could one day be Chinese owned.
A shocking concept for the ultimate all-American company, but one some auto industry experts say isn’t too far-fetched.
“I can tell you right now the Chinese are shopping heavily in the U.S. auto sector,” said David Cole, chairman of the Center for Automotive Research, a Michigan think tank.
Cole said such a deal isn’t imminent and wouldn’t happen until GM starts selling shares to the public, likely a year or more from now. But he says buying GM would be a major opportunity for the nascent Chinese auto industry.
“The Chinese have a lot of our money and they’re looking to invest it,” he said.
The Chinese have already shown an eagerness to buy some of the damaged brands being cut loose by U.S. automakers. GM is in the process of finalizing the sale of its Hummer unit to Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery. Ford Motor is in talks to sell its Swedish car unit Volvo to Chinese automaker Geely.

Aptera News

Thanks to a gracious invitation from Reliant Energy, the Aptera 2e will be on display at the Reliant Football Stadium in Houston, Texas for the Texan/Titans game tonight. We are not sure exactly what the event will entail at this point, but we are hoping for a lot. Reliant Energy and its parent company, New Jersey based NRG, are looking to lead the charge for electric vehicles in the future. And call us biased, but we can’t think of anyone better for them to take the ride with than Aptera.

The award comes weeks after Oncor lost the competition for a major stimulus grant for advanced meters.

Infiniti Electric Car Will Maintain Performance Image

Over the past decade, Infiniti has been carefully forging a performance image itself, developing cars with class leading powertrains and dynamics.
With the company recently announcing plans for an electric vehicle–something commonly seen as environmentally friendly and completely lacking in the performance department–that carefully formed image could be in jeopardy.
Infiniti fans shouldn’t be worried as the new electric car will lend itself perfectly to the company’s performance image, according to Ben Poore, Infiniti North American sales boss.

Green Cars: Tesla Motors Shatters Single-Charge Distance Record

The biggest knock on the electric vehicles (EVs) is its lack of range on a single charge. On average the typical EV being produced today has about a 100-mile range before needing to recharge. On hybrids it becomes even more dismal with an all-electric range of roughly 40 miles. For normal commute in a day an EV would suffice, however when longer trips are taken its lack of range becomes a problem. For example a typical trip from San Francisco to Los Angeles spans roughly 400 miles and would take around four recharges to complete versus one refill for an internal-combustion engine (ICE) vehicle.

Tesla Motors IPO coming ‘any day’ now, says report

Word on the street — and by that we mean Reuters — is that Tesla’s looking to go public with the company “any day.” The luxury electric car make, whose Roadster still goes for a cool $109,000, would be the first US auto company to offer an IPO since Ford way back in 1956, says MSNBC. Quite a notable event, indeed, but earlier comments by Tesla investors (via Autoblog Green) suggest “any day now” might be any time between now and September 2010.
