USA: A Long Bet on Electric Cars

The Obama Administration is eager to establish a green auto industry and is willing to spend money to make it happen. So far the U.S. Energy Dept. has agreed to lend $8.5 billion to help companies large and small retool plants to make more fuel-efficient cars and develop new technologies. Europe: France targets 2 mln electric cars in 2020

PARIS, Sept 30 – France hopes to have 2 million electric cars on the road by 2020, and its energy minister Jean-Louis Borloo will on Thursday launch a plan designed to ensure the necessary infrastructure is in place in time. According to a source close to the matter, the zero-emission i-MiEV, which launched in Japan this year with the delivery of about 50 of the electric four-seaters to government offices and companies around Tokyo, has now racked up over 1400 pre-orders, representing the entire scheduled production run for the first model year.
